A one-person blog · kept in a kitchen

I draw small things and write them down.

Paper Boat is where the sketches go when they outgrow the margins. Notebooks, wet pavements, bad toast, the same three buildings near the river. Posted when something is worth keeping.

New posts most Thursdays, unless the scanner is sulking.

Six pencils, ranked by how much I actually like them

The 2B wins. The expensive one from the museum shop comes last, and I feel a bit bad about it.

A bench, a pigeon, and forty minutes

I went out to draw the harbour and came home with nine pages of one very confident bird.

Why my sketchbook has ugly pages

Half of it is bad on purpose. The other half is bad by accident, which is somehow the more useful kind.

The toaster has one setting and it is regret

Three attempts, three outcomes, all of them edible if you are brave enough. Drawings included.

The corner shop on Larch Street is closing

Mr. Oyelaran has sold me the same newspaper for years. I drew the shelves before they come down.

Drawing rain without drawing rain

Wet pavement does more work than a thousand little lines falling from the sky.

Hi, I'm June.

I work four days a week at a print shop, draw on my lunch break, and write here when there is something worth keeping. I am not very good at endings, so most posts just stop. If you have ever wondered what the inside of a stranger's sketchbook looks like, this is roughly it.

Reading: a library book about moss Drawing: the same three buildings Drinking: tea that went cold

Letters, every other Sunday

One drawing, a paragraph about whatever I noticed that week, and a link to something I liked. That is the whole thing. It takes about two minutes to read and I never send twice in a row.
